What do you do for fun? What puts you in your happy place?
Eating, yoga......Shopping, perhaps?
For those of us who use shopping as a form of therapy, "retail therapy", we are sort of screwed.
The material world is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The deals are amazing right now, but who has the money to buy anything?
With no retail therapy, how are we to cope?
I have seriously been thinking about this issue, and realized how pathetic it is.
Retail therapy is an expensive dead end. The pleasure is immediate, the satisfaction is fleeting, and the only solution is to keep on doing it.
This being said, I personally, have replaced retail therapy with some healthier forms of pleasure.
So, here they are.....
1) Use your time to exercise:
Instead of shopping, take yoga, run, or get a personal trainer. Even if you use a personal trainer once a week...it's still much cheaper than visiting the Gucci counter. You will relieve stress, settle your mind, and best of all, when this recession has lifted you will look so Fabulous in all of the new clothes you'll buy.
2) Volunteer:
Don't underestimate the gratification of feeling like you made a difference. You might make new long lasting friends, gain new skills, and have life changing experiences.
3) Get a Job:
Oooooh, what a novel concept! If you want to shop, then earn the money to do it with.
4) Get a Therapist:
If you didn't have one before, now is a perfect time to invest in yourself and get one. If you'd had a therapist in the first place, you probably would have never developed your retail therapy problem.
5) Have Sex:
Replace the gratification of shopping with having more sex. Chemically speaking, you get the same sort of high and your partner will sure be happy about it. If you don't have a partner, become a huntress and find one. Roarrr!
So, stop with the pity party and get creative. There is no better investment than investing in yourself!
Recession, Shopping, Therapy
